Bridging technical & commercial for stakeholders
I joined a Malaysian aerospace startup during its early formation phase, initially as a design engineer. The company operates in aircraft modification, certification, and future manufacturing. A space where technical decisions are inseparable from commercial reality. Very quickly, the role evolved beyond engineering.

What I Worked On
As the company grew, I began operating across:
- technical feasibility discussions
- commercial qualification with partners and clients
- executive-level presentations
- international technology partnerships
I represented the company independently in industry events and meetings with OEMs, government-linked organizations, and aviation stakeholders. Often without senior management accompaniment.
My Operating Focus
Rather than optimizing only for technical perfection, my role centered on:
- translating engineering capability into commercial narratives
- identifying technology bottlenecks early
- structuring partnerships that reduced time-to-market
- aligning engineering roadmaps with funding, certification, and talent realities
This led to the development of multi-phase growth roadmaps that were later adopted at board level.
Key Learning
In startups, titles matter less than outcomes. Engineering credibility builds trust, but business clarity drives momentum. This experience shaped how I operate today: as an engineer who thinks in systems, incentives, and execution timelines, not silos.
